James Peterson was a Pvt during the time of the 1851 Gold War. He lived till the age of 96 and died peacefully in his sleep in Augusta, Maine in 1931. He fought during The Civil War and his leg was amputated after he was shot during The Battle of Shiloh in 1862. He was honorably discharged thereafter.
